Athleisure is EVERYWHERE at the moment…the glut of New Year’s resolutions to get fit will see more people than normal wearing workout gear but this time it’s not going to last for just a month…..no no, this new trend looks like it’s here to stay and for more than just a season too!
Whether it’s on the school run, in line for coffee, over a business lunch; fitnesswear as everydaywear is becoming de rigueur, even if you haven’t worked out! But it’s not the high end fashion designers pushing this trend forward, it’s the health conscious consumers and savvy retailers looking to appeal to the masses.
‘Pole Life Lessons’, a series of blog posts exploring the ways that pole dancing has enriched our lives, in the pole studio and beyond! I hope that these anecdotes and stories remind you of your journey, and I hope that you share your own experiences with me, making sure you tag us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, using #xpolelifelessons to be in with the chance to be featured in a future blog post.
Pole Life Lesson #2: You’re On Your Own Journey
When I first started pole dancing I progressed at pretty much the same rate as everyone else, lots of moves I picked up quickly, and other moves took me a little longer, nothing unusual there. Once I proceeded onto intermediate and advanced tricks I started to make exciting progress, and with good strength gains I learned how to handspring, superman, shoulder mount and so on within my first year. However, I then decided to focus on my dancing, choreography and pole flow. For 2017 my tricks have pretty much taken a back seat. Those same class mates who were level with me a year ago are now banging out an Iron-X and polishing pole combos that I am only just starting to learn. Am I jealous? Am I worried? No, not really. I may not have that crazy combo or those strength moves, but I won Dance Filthy Amateur and I’ve got kick ass floor work skills!
With Christmas nearly upon us and presents nearly wrapped – my shopaholic head moves to what I should wear over the Christmas break and more specifically what to wear to bring in the New Year!
I don’t know about you but I find New Year’s Eve a little over-rated as the years go by. You feel like you should do something, but with all the prep of Christmas taking over, planning for New Year’s gets forgotten and you end up either spending a fortune in a club, at home with mates drinking or watching the celebrations on the TV!
But whatever the plans, I always like to dress up somehow…whether it’s in my New Year’s loungewear, smart casual for seeing friends or full on party gear!
Also as pole dancers…..we are far from the ‘norm’ in any circumstances where social gatherings are concerned! The outfit criteria usually includes “can I split in it?”, “will it fit my shoulders burst out of it hulk-style?” and “if there is something that resembles a pole…can I pole in it?” so understandably, outfit choices are sometimes difficult to choose.
So not matter your plans, here are some top looks for every kind of Pole Dancer’s New Year’s evening.
As pole dancers we love our workouts, we’re all in agreement pole is fun and highly addictive! We love what it does to our body’s, we love the excitement it brings when nailing new moves, we love feeling strong, flexi and badass but what happens when you can’t get to a studio? Or you’re away and haven’t got a pole near you? Panic sets in about loosing your strength for pole, forgetting the moves, not having the energy and you make a desperate attempt to find something that resembles a pole to feel like you’ve had a workout!
I caught up with the lovely Sarah Scott to talk about her new online training programme designed specifically for pole dancers….off the pole!
