As the Summer months get closer, my news feed is starting to fill with posts about the summer pole camps coming up, and after taking part in two years of Alex pole camp with the lovely Alex Shchukin & Katia Shchukina, I have found that I come to the same dilemma of needing to pack everything for a normal holiday PLUS all the pole stuff into one tiny bag!
We’ve heard many of our pole teachers shout this during class even when you think your toes are pointed…it’s not enough! When it comes to exercise, most people overlook two of the most important parts of their body - their feet. They train upper body, lower body, and core without even thinking to strengthen their feet.
Having recently competed in Pole Theatre, a key part of my training was to improve the pointe in my feet as well as strengthen my ankles to avoid sickling (explained later) mainly because I did not want any pictures or the video to come back showing flexed feet or half a pointed toe! (Some would call this vein but I call it being a perfectionist!).
Athleisure is EVERYWHERE at the moment…the glut of New Year’s resolutions to get fit will see more people than normal wearing workout gear but this time it’s not going to last for just a month…..no no, this new trend looks like it’s here to stay and for more than just a season too!
Whether it’s on the school run, in line for coffee, over a business lunch; fitnesswear as everydaywear is becoming de rigueur, even if you haven’t worked out! But it’s not the high end fashion designers pushing this trend forward, it’s the health conscious consumers and savvy retailers looking to appeal to the masses.
With Christmas nearly upon us and presents nearly wrapped – my shopaholic head moves to what I should wear over the Christmas break and more specifically what to wear to bring in the New Year!
I don’t know about you but I find New Year’s Eve a little over-rated as the years go by. You feel like you should do something, but with all the prep of Christmas taking over, planning for New Year’s gets forgotten and you end up either spending a fortune in a club, at home with mates drinking or watching the celebrations on the TV!
But whatever the plans, I always like to dress up somehow…whether it’s in my New Year’s loungewear, smart casual for seeing friends or full on party gear!
Also as pole dancers…..we are far from the ‘norm’ in any circumstances where social gatherings are concerned! The outfit criteria usually includes “can I split in it?”, “will it fit my shoulders burst out of it hulk-style?” and “if there is something that resembles a pole…can I pole in it?” so understandably, outfit choices are sometimes difficult to choose.
So not matter your plans, here are some top looks for every kind of Pole Dancer’s New Year’s evening.
As pole dancers we love our workouts, we’re all in agreement pole is fun and highly addictive! We love what it does to our body’s, we love the excitement it brings when nailing new moves, we love feeling strong, flexi and badass but what happens when you can’t get to a studio? Or you’re away and haven’t got a pole near you? Panic sets in about loosing your strength for pole, forgetting the moves, not having the energy and you make a desperate attempt to find something that resembles a pole to feel like you’ve had a workout!
I caught up with the lovely Sarah Scott to talk about her new online training programme designed specifically for pole dancers….off the pole!
As the nights are drawing in, thoughts move to cold winters and wrapping up warm. Personally I love winter…but not for pole training! Cold poles, cold floor, longer warm ups….when all I want to do is just dance! So instead of freezing our peachy bums off, I take this time of year as the perfect excuse to shop for winter warm up wear!
When it comes to what to wear, I really like to think about it, firstly because I am a firm believer of what you wear reflects your personality but also because if you feel good in what you’re wearing, you will feel more confident in yourself which in turn will make you have a better training session (and exactly why shopping is good for the soul!).
Here’s a round up of my favourite warm up pieces for training, and don’t forget at the end of this coming month is Black Friday….perfect excuse to stock up before the nights get even colder!
For my first blog post with X-pole, I thought I’d start with my favourite subject – shopping!
Not clothes this time though, with the release of the new iPhone 7 this month, I got to thinking about gadgets that could assist us pole dancers with our training. So I’ve pulled together a roundup of the best gadgets - from quirky to practical, these geektastic tools are a must-have in anyone’s shopping wish list!
